FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What does an Acupuncture session involve?
The initial appointment is a combination of consultation and treatment known as the Intake. The Intake session lasts between 60-90 minutes and includes a comprehensive review of the patient's medical history. Utilizing alternative and traditional diagnostic methods, an individualized, natural treatment protocol is developed for the patient. Follow-up consultations are approximately
Following the Intake, treatment protocol consists of subsequent sessions that include the use of Acupuncture modalities, herbs, dietary recommendations, exercise prescriptions, counseling techniques, body work and stress reduction methods. As the patient progresses with treatment, the protocol is modified to maintain focused health goals.
How does Acupuncture work?
Acupuncture is a method that encourages natural healing in the body and improves overall functions. The practitioner strategically inserts tiny needles into specific points in the body, in order to remove obstructions. Chinese medicine is based on the premise that the body knows how to heal itself, and by clearing blockages and restoring balance, we help it do so.
Everyone’s system is unique and therefore requires customized treatment. If 10 people are afflicted with the same disorder, there may be 10 different treatment protocols—the points used and blockages targeted may be different for each person.
Does Acupuncture hurt?
Pain is not typically associated with Acupuncture treatments. However, there are times when we treat specific areas of the body that may be more blocked than others. During the process of releasing these blockages, there may be a sensation of pressure before the more pronounced sense of relief.
How many treatments will it take to help me?
Keep in mind that it is Chinese medicine, not Chinese magic, so it requires a little bit of time to work. For short-term issues recently incurred, sometimes just a few treatments will affect results. If it is a long-term illness with an extended period of suffering, it usually takes a little longer to heal. Patients should commit to three to six sessions to begin with, in order to feel significant results. At that point, we are able to determine if Acupuncture is working for you.
What is Acupuncture good for?
Acupuncture treats myriad conditions including, but not limited to, pain management, digestive issues, arthritis, headaches, orthopedic ailments, fertility enhancement, gynecological issues, anxiety, insomnia and many other common health problems.
What should I expect during my first Massage therapy visit?
Your Massage therapist will require you to fill out a health history form. Afterwards, the therapist will ask you general questions to establish what areas you would like worked on and if there are any conditions needing to be addressed in order to determine if Massage is the right course of treatment for you. Your Massage therapist may perform certain assessments and testing to evaluate your condition, and to see if you have any presenting complaints.
What do I wear during the Massage?
Depending on the primary technique your therapist uses, you may or may not need to undress. For a full body Massage, most people undress completely. However, you may choose to wear underwear. Your Massage therapist will give you privacy to undress, and you will be covered with a sheet and blanket at all times except the area being worked on.
What do I do during a Massage therapy treatment?
Make yourself comfortable. If your therapist wants you to adjust your position, he or she will either adjust your position or will ask you to do so. Please feel free to change your position at anytime in order to make yourself more comfortable. Many people close their eyes and relax completely during a session; others prefer to talk. It's up to you. It is your Massage, and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax. Do not hesitate to ask questions at any time.
How long will a massage treatment last?
The average full-body Massage treatment lasts approximately one hour. A half-hour appointment only allows time for a partial massage session, such as neck and shoulders, back or legs and feet. Many people prefer a 50 to 80-minute session for optimal relaxation. Always allow relaxation time prior to and after each session.
How will I feel after the Massage therapy treatment?
Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days. Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during a Massage, it is recommended you drink plenty of water following your massage. Massage therapists sometimes recommend a hot Epsom salt bath that encourages the release of toxins that may have been stirred up from the Massage treatment.
